W dniach od 16 do 23 października, 46-cioro uczniów i czterech nauczycieli z naszej szkoły uczestniczyło w wyjeździe do szkoły językowej SOL w Barnstaple, w hrabskie Devon. Nasz wyjazd był idealnym połączeniem nauki języka angielskiego i odkrywania brytyjskiej kultury, a dzięki zakwaterowaniu u angielskich rodzin mogliśmy poczuć się jak prawdziwi Anglicy.
Pierwszym przystankiem było miasto Barnstaple, w hrabstwie Devon. To tutaj znajdowała się nasza szkoła językowa SOL (Sharing One Language), dzięki której mogliśmy dowiedzieć się jak wyglądają lekcje po angielsku oraz uczyć się nowych słówek i zwrotów. Dostawaliśmy wiele nieszablonowych zadań, które polegały m.in. na kontakcie z mieszkańcami Barnstaple. Na każdej lekcji dowiadywaliśmy się nowych rzeczy z na temat pobliskch miast, nie zabrakło również zajęć, w których musieliśmy wykazać się kreatywnością i odegrać scenki w grupie z wykorzystaniem losowych słów. Dzięki takim zadaniom zapominaliśmy, że jesteśmy w szkole i dobrze się bawiliśmy. Jednocześnie mieliśmy możliwość sprawdzić, jak radzimy sobie używając języka angielskiego przez tydzień bez przerwy. Oprócz nauki nie zabrakło świetnych wycieczek do pobliskich miast, dzięki którym mogliśmy zobaczyć różne oblicza Anglii i poznać tamtejszą architekturę i obyczaje. Już w pierwszych dniach odwiedziliśmy Woolacombe i Ilfracombe, czyli dwie urokliwe nadmorskie miejscowości. Zachwyciły nas piękne widoki oraz połączenie błękitnego morza z piaszczystą plażą. Mieliśmy również okazję zwiedzić miasto Exeter, stolicę Devonu, które wyróżniało się zjawiskową i zapierającą dech w piersiach katedrą. Dodatkowo zobaczyliśmy budynki, które były inspiracją dla J.K. Rowling podczas pisania Harry'ego Pottera. Pod koniec naszego pobytu w Barnstaple, zwiedziliśmy dwa bardzo ciekawe miejsca: Lynton i Lynmouth z niepowtarzalnie klimatycznymi uliczkami, jedyną w swoim rodzaju kolejkę linową napędzaną wodą oraz urokliwy port. Skosztowaliśmy również typowch dań dla tego regionu czyli cream tea, fish and chips czy pasties.
Po skończeniu zajęć w szkole językowej w Barnstaple rozpoczęliśmy podróż do Londynu. Po drodze mieliśmy okazję zwiedzić kultowe Stonehenge oraz miasto Oxford z zachwycającą architekturą, która obejmowała budynki uczelni. Podczas naszej krótkiej wizyty w Londynie odwiedziliśmy dwa słynne muzea: Natural History Museum oraz Victoria and Albert Museum i ich fantastyczne wystawy, gdzie każdy mógł znaleźć coś dla siebie. Zobaczyliśmy również Marble Arch i słynny dom towarowy Harrods, a przechodząc między tymi atrakcjami mogliśmy podziwiać Hyde Park. Nie zabrakło też czasu na zakupy na znanej ulicy Oxford Street. Nastepnie pojechaliśmy na lotnisko w Stansted i szczęśliwie wrócilismy do Wrocławia.
Pobyt w Wielkiej Brytanii był dla nas niezywkłym doświadczeniem, dzięki któremu mogliśmy pogłębić umiejętności językowe, poznać nowych ludzi, brytyjską kulturę i nowe miejsca. Był to fantastycznie spędzony czas, który będziemy wspominać pewnie przez całe życie!
TRIP TO ENGLAND (16.09-23.09)
From 16th-23rd of October 2023, 46 students and 4 teachers from our school took part in a trip to SOL (Sharing One Language) in Barnstaple, Devon in Great Britain.
This trip was the perfect combination of learning English and discovering the facts of the British culture, and owing to the host families we could feel as real English for a while.
Our first stop was the city of Barnstaple located in the county of Devon. This is where our language school SOL was , thanks to which we could uncover how English lessons look like and we learnt new vocabulary and terms. We got lots of unconventional tasks, which focused on teamwork and contact with people of Barnstaple. During each lesson we found out new things not only about the neighbouring cities, but we cannot forget about the tasks where we had to demonstrate our creativity and put on a show in groups which included random words. Thanks to these types of tasks, we would forget that we were in school and truly enjoyed ourselves. At the same time, we got the opportunity to test how we manage with using nothing but English for the whole week! Except for learning we had great trips to the nearby cities, thanks to which we could experience the different sides of England and get to know the local architecture and customs. Right during the first days we visited Woolacombe and Ilfracombe, two lovely seaside cities. We were amazed by the beautiful views and the mix of the cerulean blue sea and sandy beach. We could also admire the excellent statue, which induces mixed emotions and compiled us to think. We also got the chance to explore the city of Exeter, which stood out with the phenomenal and breathtaking cathedral. Additionally, we saw buildings which were an inspiration for J.K. Rowlings Harry Potter. Near the end of our stay in Barnstaple we managed to traverse through the interesting cities of Lynton and Lynmouth, which was plagued with a tragic flood. We were able to experience the unique alleys, a one-of-a-kind funicular, which is powered solely on water, and a charming port. We were also able to try typical dishes for this region as well as, dishes popular for England in general, such as cream tea, fish and chips or pasties. After finishing our English course in Barnstaple, we began our journey to London. On the way there we had the opportunity to see the iconic Stonehenge and tour the city of Oxford and all of its amazing architecture, which included the college grounds. During our short stay in London, we explored two famous museums: Natural History Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum, which possessed amazing exhibitions, and everyone could find something for themselves. We also saw the Marble Arch and Harrods, and while walking through these attractions we could marvel at the beauty of Hyde Park. We also had time to do some shopping on the renown Oxford Street. Next, we drove to the airport and safely flew back to Wrocław which officially ended our trip. In conclusion this was an amazing trip, thanks to which we could broaden our language skills and meet new people, get to know about British culture and explore new places. This was a great experience and we’ll be fondly recalling this trip for ever!
